Exploring and Learning:

Look for tracks in the snow and figure out who they belong to.

study snowflakes up close.  see how each one is completely different.

Yule shortest day of the year.  celebrating the return of the sun.  As the earth tilts towards the light again.

Ice- melting! Make ice sculptures by freezing a bowl of water overnight. Unmold it, and make a solution of salt and water, place in a spray bottle, and spray sculpture away. Discuss why ice melts faster with salt.

Make lanterns with cans.  Fill the cans with water and freeze them till the water is ice.  The hammer a pattern of  holes with a nail into the can.  When you have finished your design, let the ice melt and place a small candle within and hang in the garden for decoration.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Crafts

cut snow flakes from white paper and stick to windows.

make candles 

make lanterns so many different ways to make a lantern ....

make candle holders

make wax pictures with wax crowns grated onto wax paper pressed between to two wax papers and iron.  nice on  window melted colours.

time for puppetry and story telling.

weaving and embroidering.  weave yourself a hammock for the summer.

make up own board games.

play the observant game.
change things in the room for someone to notice the difference. 

make a bird feeder for the birds in the winter. pinecone bird feeder

Drawing with cold coals of the fire is a nice medium to draw with.  charcoal.
