The Vegan way

Veganism sprouted from a compassion for life.  A philosophy of non-violence. A gate way to spiritual growth as well as physical health.  Sprouting into a desire to educate others in the possibility of living a healthier holistic lifestyle for all.

The following quotes are from Vegetarians…

"The eating of meat extinguishes
the seed of great compassion."

The BUDDHA (circa 563-483 B.C.)
Indian avatar

Vegans eat no animal products nor wear animal products.  This means no honey, eggs (even unfertilized eggs), or dairy products, including goat’s milk.  Neither wearing garments made from leather, buying goods with animal by-products or anything involving animal testing for consumer and animal safety.

The ideal these codes of ethics stem from is for a compassion for all sentient beings. This steams from a compassion for all breathing life.

Vegans wish Not to disrupt the natural behaviour of earth’s species or consume what was not designed for our consumption.

"Nothing will benefit human health
and increase chances for survival of life on earth
as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet."

ALBERT EINSTEIN (1879-1955)
German-born American physicist
1921 Nobel Prize Winner

All the protein and calcium required for human health, including during Pregnancy and child raising are available in the delicious foods that grow from the earth.

"The gods created certain kinds of beings
to replenish our bodies...
they are the trees and the plants and the seeds."

PLATO (circa 428-347 B.C.)
Greek philosopher

Veganism is the healthiest dietary option to choose for life, and this is supported by countless nutritional and dietary studies. By becoming vegan, you can enrich your quality of life as you become healthier, fitter, and less likely to experience weight control problems.

By choosing the vegan lifestyle, one can truly make a difference for life other than our own. The vegan lifestyle does not support the cruel and unnecessary factory farming industry, the fishing trade (which, due to overfishing, is placing many forms of ocean life in peril), or range grazing techniques which destroy delicate ecosystems and degrade topsoil.

Veganism acknowledges the value of life other than our own. Veganism is ethically related to the practice of ahimsa, or non-violence.

Through the selection of a vegan lifestyle, you are less likely to fall prey to such diseases as atherosclerosis, cancer and diabetes. Veganism is truly a choice that is life-promoting.

Veganism is a valid, positive lifestyle choice, supported by such independent bodies as the American Dietetic Association, the Heart Foundation (Australia), and the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.

"The animals share with us
the privilege of having a soul."

PYTHAGORAS (circa 582-507 B.C.)
Greek philosopher, mathematician, mystic
"Father of Vegetarianism"

I have been Vegan for 12 years my husband for over 20 years.  Our 3 daughters have never tasted meat, eggs, or fish.
We do eat honey and goats milk and have had products with cows milk and eaten kosha cheese with no rennet.  Not often but on the occasion.
Since my children have never tasted meat they don’t yearn for it or desire it.  In fact, they plug their noses, and look sadly fascinated by the dead carcasses available in the stores.

We get varied opinions of peoples views on our choice of diet.  Some people think we are madly insane and our children must suffer from malnutrition. Concerns of what to feed us flash thought some people’s minds.  I have to laugh. There is so much food from the earth, we can be creative eaters.

My children heal fast from wounds, can still enjoy birthday parties without joining in the sugar, egg based cakes; my girls do not suffer psychologically from not being the norm.  They get a feeling of a unique difference. My girls glow with a vegan diet.

Eating vegan keeps us healthy, energetic and sensitive to the life forms around us.  We honour and cherish our garden we feed from, and enjoy the diverse abundance a garden provides.  Along with the many diverse life forms, that enjoy the garden with us.

The benefits of veganism out way those of choosing to eat meat.

"My refusing to eat meat occasioned an inconveniency,
and I have been frequently chided for my singularity.
But my light repast allows for greater progress,
for greater clearness of head and quicker comprehension."

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN (1706-1790)
American statesman, inventor and author

More then ever we find many wonderful sites on the web about living vegan.  This excerpt was taken from one of the best vegan websites on-line ‘Gentle World’.   It is a non-profit educational organization since 1979. They are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life by educating the public as to the health, environmental and spiritual benefits of a plant-based diet and sustainable lifestyle. It is a site worth viewing for those interested in learning more on the subject.

"Public health studies in America have revealed that the epidemics of heart disease and cancers have been conclusively linked to unhealthful diet. The high fat, high protein. Low fiber diet consumed by most Americans clogs the human system as surely as using kerosene for fuel could ruin the engine of your car.  It is now clear that the human body becomes lean, strong and healthy when run on a “fuel” free of the fat of animals and rich in the grains, legumes, fruits, and vegetables that the earth provides so generously. Such a diet has always been the natural human diet, but now it offers itself as a key for our survival as individuals and as a species."  From Michael A. Klaper, M.D. (the cookbook for people who love animals)

"If a man earnestly seeks a righteous life,
his first act of abstinence is from animal food..."

COUNT LEO TOLSTOY (1828-1910)
Russian novelist and philosopher

I support the belief we can feed all the worlds nations on a vegan diet if we do away with feeding the world on meat. This will put an end to world hunger, creating healthier people and creating a more balanced habitat for all.  It is scientifically proven.

Veganism is a life style.  It is not something one can easily jump into. It is a thing a person needs to ease into.  To slowly adapt and change their diet, and attitudes. Then there will be no harsh withdrawal symptoms as people change their habits and become sensitive to all life around us.

"The average age (longevity) of a meat-eater is 63.
I am on the verge of 85 and still at work as hard as ever.
I have lived quite long enough and am trying to die,
but I simply cannot do it.  A single beef-steak would finish
me, but I cannot bring myself to swallow it.
I am oppressed with a dread of living forever.
That is the only disadvantage of vegetarianism."

GEORGE BERNARD SHAW (1856-1950)
Anglo-Irish author and playwright

I will always be vegan and I know my girls will too.  As food affects our health it makes us conscious of what we do to ourselves. We then can listen more to ourselves within and follow orders.  When enough is enough body says stop, we stop.  When our bodies say eat this you’ll like it, you need it, we listen.  When we listen within we feel better for it.
