Plays through dance:
These girls have studied, hatha yoga, tai chi, belly dancing and ceremonial magick, so their movements are in accordance to keeping a straight spine, keeping balanced and centered, free flowing, graceful, and worshipful as they close their palms and honor the spaces they invoke into their dance.
Mother drums a beat that fits the movement of the motions.
Changing Space
The idea of this play is to create upliftment in spirit. For the dancers to begin their movements in an ill-tempered or listless way, then become stirred by what they find and change to gaiety, graceful beauty and heartedness.
3 cheerless souls move depressingly around.
One finds a rattle shakes it all around them self releasing tension and is uplifted and enlightened by the shakes. She rattles around the other two, but they push her away; her rattle sound dies down as she quietly moves around with it.
Next child finds a ring of flowers, she smells them and smiles. Places them on her head and is happy to find beauty; feeling beautiful she smiles around gracefully.
The third girl is gloomy the other two whisper to each other how to cheer her up. One tries her flowers but they get chucked away, the other tries her rattle but she gets pushed away then the gloomy girl sees her reflection in a mirror (or pool) and is shocked at her facial expression and laughs. She laughs heartily and they all dance around happily.
Dance of worship
Beginning as a seed the girls are covered with scarves. They grow, as they wish, one an egg to bird, one a tree, one a snake….. as they will.
They move and dance showing the transformation of their species. My girls like to be trees that grow to an amazing height then get cut down and start all over again, so the story continues and repeats itself. They found great enjoyment dancing in the circles of a life form whether it be animal, plant or elemental such as the water cycle or seasons. Creating stories with their movements.
I want to create a dance showing worship and upliftment in spirit.
We began by doing basic ceremonial banishings, a circle honouring each of the four directions, the four elements following the rising and setting of the sun. Their movements are graceful and honourary. Sacred and precious. They made up their own movements to grace their audience each as unique as their personalities. They appear like sun salutations uplifted and light.
I played the music of Enya for them to move to, which sounds angelic and peacefully beautiful, as they created they own movement to fit the theme.
