TABULA RECENSA - The Program -
Version 1.0
Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law.
Tabula Recensa is a graphical presentation of the Enochian Tablets
of Dr. John Dee, arranged in the form of the Great Table, and
derived from the version recorded as having been revised by the
angel Raphael in e.v. 1587. This version, the Tabula Recensa, is
displayed in Enochian script, and in elemental colors. The display
may be customized in various ways.
I, Azoth, the programmer, am solely and totally responsible for the
creation of this software, in accordance with my Will. You, the
user, are solely and absolutely responsible for any application of
said software and anything resulting therefrom. If this level of
personal responsibility is unacceptable for any reason, simply put
the software back where you found it, destroy all evidence that it
was ever in your posession, and carry on with your life. You will
remain blameless.
Tabula Recensa is provided only for such purposes as may be
suggested by the ingenium of the initiate. All other uses are
strictly forbidden, and will not be discussed here. Work with any
aspect of the Enochian material requires a measure of forethought
and discretion. Users experiencing perceptual anomalies or
spontaneous reality shifts, or finding unwanted trans-temporal
gateways littering the inner landscape, should not be unduly
concerned. All things must pass.
Tabula Recensa is composed of two components: recensa.exe and
recensa.fon.The latter contains the Enochian font. Both must be
located in the same directory in order to function, unless the font
directory is specified on the command line.
Tabula Recensa has the following command line parameters (lower-case
is required for all command line input):
- air {air color} : sets elemental color (default: YELLOW)
- water {water color} : sets elemental color (default: BLUE)
- earth {earth color} : sets elemental color (default: GREEN)
- fire {fire color} : sets elemental color (default: RED)
- spirit {spirit color} : sets elemental color (default: WHITE)
- fair {air color} : sets flashing elemental color (default: BLUE)
- fwater {water color} : sets flashing elemental color (default: YELLOW)
- fearth {earth color} : sets flashing elemental color (default: RED)
- ffire {fire color} : sets flashing elemental color (default: GREEN)
- fspirit {spirit color} : sets flashing elemental color (default: BLACK)
- zodiac : border uses macrocosmic elemental attributions
- flash : remove flashing-color background of each tablet
- back : remove background border
- mono : remove color attributes
- font : font directory (eg, 'c:\fonts', no trailing slash)
- roman : use Roman instead of Enochian characters
The available elemental colors are:
black, blue, green, cyan, red, magenta, brown, lightgray, darkgray,
lightblue, lightgreen, lightcyan, lightred, lightmagenta, yellow,
white
Note: The correct flashing-colors are difficult to obtain on the
typical PC monitor (eg, VGA), without much judicious palette
twiddling. A future version of this software may make such tuning
much easier to achieve. Meanwhile, knowledgable users are invited to
twiddle at will, in whatever fashion suits.
Example: recensa -air lightblue -fspirit cyan -zodiac -font
\enoch\fonts
In addition, while the tablets are displayed, the following keys are
active:
q/Q : quit the program
z/Z : set macrocosmic (zodiac) elemental attributions
w/W : set microcosmic (winds) elemental attributions (this is the
default)
f/F : toggle flashing-color background of each tablet (default is
ON)
b/B : toggle background border (default is ON)
m/M : toggle monochrome color attributes (default is OFF)
r/R : toggle between Roman and Enochian script

As the utility of Tabula Recensa may not be apparent to someone new
to Dee's work, a reading list for Enochian studies, with impertinent
comments, follows:
The Enochian Evocation of Dr. John Dee - Geoffrey James (Heptangle)
An Heptarchic/Enochian grimoire, with bad Latin but excellent
Enochian grammar. Probably the best Keys available.
Enochian Sex Magick - Crowley/Duquette/Hyatt (New Falcon) Crowley's
Liber 84 vel Chanokh, lucid commentary by Lon Duquette, and Enochian
tantra by Hyatt. Probably the best general text for the practicing
magickian.
Elizabethan Magic - Turner (Element)
Superb, accurate renditions of Dee's original Enochian material and
other magical documents of the same period.
The Heptarchia Mystica - Turner (Aquarian)
The standard Heptarchic source in English, with essential commentary
on the Sigillium dei Aemeth and the Holy Table.
The Golden Dawn - Regardie (Llewellyn)
The original publication of G.D. Enochian material, upon which most
subsequent Enochian theory and technique is based.
Ceremonial Magic - Regardie (Aquarian)
Valuable for Regardie's 'Opening by Watchtower' and commentary on
ritual construction in the Enochian vein.
The Complete Golden Dawn System of Magic - Regardie (New Falcon)
Largely supercedes both the foregoing, and contains the valuable
'Addendum to the Concourse of the Forces'. Required reading.
Golden Dawn Enochian Magic - Zalewski (Llewellyn)
Great Enochian trivia, and some G.D. data which is unavailable
elsewhere (vis, 'The Book of Truth'). A valuable resource.
The Enochian Temple - Rowe (Black Moon)
This work, and a number of supplemental papers, is remarkable for
being the result of a number of very successful Enochian Workings,
and contains material given by Enochian entities themselves. The
techniques are highly instructive, but definitely not for the
novice.
Liber Gradus - Podgurski (Satanas Babalon, but available from Abyss)
A magickal record along Enochian lines.
Enochian Magic - Schueler (Llewellyn)
The 'Red' book.
Advanced Enochian Magick - Schueler (Llewellyn)
The 'Green' book.
Enochian Physics - Schueler (Llewellyn)
The 'Gold' book.
Enochian Yoga - Schueler (Llewellyn)
The 'Yellow' book.
Enochian Tarot - Schueler (Llewellyn)
The 'Blue' book.
The Enochian Gospel according to Schueler. These works, though
interesting in their own right, should be regarded as suggestive,
rather than definitive. They represent a fine creative effort, but
unsound scholarship, and should be approached sideways.
Mysteria Magica - Denning/Phillips (Llewellyn)
Contains Dee's original material, as amplified by the Aurum Solis,
and a selection of ritual techniques, including a sort of template
for Enochian ritual, the Theban Angelic Formula. Obviously the
result of much practical work, it may be studied with some reward.
The Foundations of High Magic - Denning/Phillips (Llewellyn)
Contains an interesting dissertation on Elizabethan magic and Dr.
Dee in particular.
Gems from the Equinox - Crowley/Regardie (New Falcon) Besides much
else, contains Crowley's Liber 84 vel Chanokh, which is a highly
condensed handbook of Golden Dawn style Enochian magic, and 'The
Vision and the Voice', an arcane magical record of Crowley's
Initiatic experiences with the 30 Aethyrs. The latter should
probably be regarded as more typical of Crowley than typical of the
Aethyrs.
Treatise on Angel Magic - McLean (Phanes)
Interesting for the connections it suggests between the Enochian
material and goetic practice; contains the Rudd manuscripts.
All of the above sources are currently in print and more or less
readily available. The Enochian dictionaries by Vinci and Laycock
may also be of interest, but are becoming quite rare. The Sangreal
edition (1972ev) of Crowley's 'The Vision and the Voice' is hard to
find, but has Regardie's commentary, which is missing in the 'Gems
from the Equinox'. The Casaubon selection from Dee's diaries, 'The
True and Faithful Relation', is no longer commonly available in the
Askin edition of 1974ev, but is due soon to be republished by
Magickal Childe. Inquiring minds want to know.
Responses to this program should be addressed to 'AZOTH' via the
usual echoes (MagickNet, ThelemaNet, etc.)
